Darin Beaman studied at ArtCenter College of Design, earning a BFA and an MFA, and later returned to the school as Design Director of its Design Office. He went on to co-found Undivided, a design studio he led for nearly two decades before starting Former Studio in Pasadena. His design work has received numerous professional awards, is held in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and has been featured in Communication Arts and ID magazine.
Across each of his practices runs the same throughline: staying more creative today than the day before, and never being afraid to move on to something new. That restlessness carried him from design into woodworking — turning bowls from reclaimed urban trees that have found their way into Michelin-starred restaurants and private collections — and, this year, into painting, a discipline he set aside more than forty years ago. He now paints several days a week, splitting time between a home studio and a shared studio in Pasadena.
