The immediacy here marks the start of this exploration — a few gestures with a large knife, freeform penwork, subtle textures set against larger scraped areas of paint and gesso. This is one of a handful of early paintings that came together in a couple of hours, fast and loose, driven by the memory of a dinner out, culminating in this composition.
